Volunteering

ROLE OF VOLUNTEERS

By becoming a  volunteer, you will be able to help along side other like minded volunteers.

Being a volunteer currently involves working at Armidale depot at the old Freight facility or at our perway office building.

Specialised areas of volunteer work are available for those with specialist skills. Boiler makers, coach builders, carpenters, electricians and mechanical fitters are always in demand.  Experience or interest in work health and safety or safety management systems is also always needed.

Our monthly working bee's are currently on the last Sunday of each month and start from 9am with additional working bee's arranged as required. Any amount of support is appreciated.

Track and train restoration work may involve heavy manual labour although appropriate tools and machinery will be used where possible.  No work will be carried out unless deemed safe to do so.  Our work is governed by the requirements of the National Rail Safety regulator and state based WHS legislation and regulations and some training may be required.

Typical roles include maintaining the depot grounds and restoring or repairing infrastructure including rolling stock and the track. Once operational and operating trains engaging with the public on open days and train operations will also be part of the roll if you wish to do so.
